Abstract

The article presents a critical analysis of Russian and foreign literary devoted to etiology, pathogenesis, clinic, diagnosis and treatment of patients with tooth wear. It is no secret that successfull treatment of such patients is an extremely difficult because decompensated form of generalized tooth wear is often accompanied by masticatory muscles and temporomandibular joint (TMJ) dysfunction, significantly complicates pathological process. Literature analysis showed that etiological factors of tooth wear and its consequences are occlusal trauma, muscular hypertonus and stress-related disorders, which are interrelated. Among the common clinical manifestations of tooth wear are dentition deformities, hypertonus of masticatory muscles, TMJ disorders, a height decrease of the lower part of the face. One of the most debatable issues is the choice of a method of determining the central ratio of the jaws and the interalveolar height (it is described more than twenty of them). Russian and foreign researchers share the point of view that functional and X-ray diagnostic methods are necessary in patients with tooth wear. Therapeutic resources in such kind of patients are various methods of masticatory muscles relaxation, as well as prosthodontic restoration of worn teeth.
Conclusion.
The lack of a unified approach to the diagnostics and treatment of patients with increased tooth wear and its consequences makes the study of this problem it relevant. One of the scientific task is to search a new scheme of medical tactics.

Key words:

tooth wear, temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders, masticatory muscles hypertonus
