Abstract

Currently, the biological effects of vitamin D are being widely studied in various fields of medicine. Dentistry is no exception: it has been established that vitamin D can affect the disease incidence of periodontal tissues and the formation of caries resistance. The aim of the review is a studying scientific literature data about the effect of vitamin D on periodontal tissue disease and the formation of oral caries resistance. In the course of the analysis of 53 sources, it was found that vitamin D is involved in amelogenesis, dentinogenesis, mineralization of dental tissues, and also forms immunity of the oral cavity.
Conclusion.
Oral vitamin D supplements appear to have a preventive effect on inflammatory periodontal diseases and dental hard tissues, but further research is needed in this area.

Key words:

vitamin D, calcitriol, caries resistance, periodontium
