Abstract

The article presents the results of a survey of patients with various nosological forms of diseases of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) and their distribution according to gender and age, and the frequency of occurrence among patients was determined. As a result of the study, possible risk factors were identified that contribute to the development of diseases of the temporomandibular joint. Purpose. To assess the prevalence and clinical features of the course of diseases of the temporomandibular joint among patients. Results. The examination of patients was carried out using basic and additional diagnostic methods of the maxillodental system. The study identified certain nosological forms of TMJ diseases in patients and studied the features of their clinical course, and also indicated possible risk factors for the development of pathological conditions of this articular joint among examined population. Findings. In most cases, various nosological forms of TMJ diseases have occurred among females, to a lesser extent among males. In the group of young patients, pathological changes in TMJ were determined much more often than in the groups of middle and old ages. In most cases, patients were diagnosed with TMJ dysfunction syndrome, which was often accompanied by pain. Risk factors for TMJ diseases were dentofacial deformities, irrational orthopedic treatment, or untimely dental prosthetics, which led to a violation of the occlusal relationship of the dentition.
