Expert review of dental care in patients with endodontic-periodontal diseases in the Republic of Uzbekistan

Abstract

There is now a steady increase in the number of patients requiring the treatment for endodontic-periodontal diseases (EPDs). The authors assessed the status of dental care in patients with EPDs to develop proposals for its improvement. The following problems have been identified: (1) EPDs have different etiology; (2) there are no special accounting forms for EPDs reporting; (3) EPDs are not reported in treatment institutions; (4) EPDs are rare and (5) statistical records are inconsistent. Among the problems related to clinical aspects of the diagnosis and treatment of EPDs, the maximum score was assigned to problems related to lack of knowledge about the clinical presentation of EPDs and the high labour coefficient of treatment. Among the problems related to personnel training problems, a high demand for special thematic advanced training in physicians has been identified. In addition, among the problems related to the arrangement of specialized medical care, the need to develop protocols for the treatment of EPDs has been identified; insufficient continuity between dental therapists and parodontologists and lack of an integrated treatment approach has been also identified.
